starting problem ford escort xr3i 1989?

my ford escort cabriolet has a starting problem it starts up first turn and as soon as you hit the accelerator it cuts out but it restarts ok it ticks over ok but doesnt drive until the until the engine has been running for 15 minutes can anyone advise me

Sounds like the problem will be in the choke have the choke system checked.

I'd definately look at the choke first, I expect you have a manual choke don't you?

probably a sticking idle speed control valve!
