I have an 88 chevy cheyenne 1500 with a 4.3 it was running sluggish for a while it was slow picking up speed after red lights and up hills it still does that but recently it doesnt always start it cranks up like it is going to start but never catches if i pump the gas it starts but as soon as i let go of the key it stalls and if i do get it started and put it in frive or reverse it i hear and feel a bang and it stalls out

1. Locate & change the fuel filter(s)
2. Check fuel pressure@ the TBI
3. With a timing light, check your plug wires for even spark distribution. [No misses or double flashes]
4. Check your timing. The timing chain may have jumped

it sounds like you may have a fuel pressure or fuel pump problem. you should take it and have the fuel pressure checked if the pressure is low that means your fuel pump is not working right and i will need to be replaced hop this helps
