im looking for a good harley to start off on
im 5'10 and 240lbs
my father in law is saying to get a touring bike but i like the look of the soft tail fatboy it also seems like a nice size for me i do plan on doing some touring. im inexperinced when it comes to motorcycles though so idk i already have a riders edge class im schedualed for

I am going to suggest not starting on a HD. Not because its too big or fast, but because, as a learner, you WILL drop the bike one day, and a Fatboy would not be cheap to fix. Spend 6 months on a 250 or 500, learn your craft and THEN get the Fatboy.

The fatboy will be fine for touring when your ready you will just need a nicer seat. However no matter which bike you get remember all the gear all the time. Also keep in mind that the Harley you want is a big V twin. That means its heavy has a lot of torque and will not be as easy to learn on as a lower cc bike.

If your inexperienced, start on a honda. You don't want to screw up an expensive harley. Get a shadow 750. Or even smaller, the smaller bikes, if you drop them, big whoop. They're cheap to fix.
