I started a debate club at my high school this year (I'm a student). At this point members are just a bunch of my friends who are particularly interested in politics, good students etcetera. When I gave the school dean the proposal and she accepted, she told me that she would arrange for a history teacher to help us out with the material. The problem, however, is that that teacher has NO debate experience. I did loads of research over the summer and so I know some about the club. I've organized the debate and everything but I have never competed in a debate before. I mean, I'm basically running the club. We want to compete soon but I don't know if I can really lead us to a win. Are there other debate teams out there that were started and run by rookie students without debate coaches? Is it possible for it to work or do I desperately need a debate coach for this.
