I want to start a small on location photography business on location. I'm investing in the equipment but i really don't understand where to start, I want to specialize in senior portraits-- maybe some events here and there. I've been studying photography for 4years and I'm continuing. I currently work for "The Picture People" and have had my work displayed in various art galleries including MOCA.

I'm looking to just build my portfolio and get some money on the side. I don't want to make anything major out of it yet. What do i need to do? Where should i start? Is it necessary to fill out business papers & contacts?

Please help. Thanks

You're starting AN on location....

Yes anytime you start a business you have to jump through all the hoops. If the government find's out that you have been making money without telling them. They will find you and beat you. (Not Literally). Before you go investing in equipment. Check yourself Make sure you are a good photographer. Then Talk to other people who have opened business and see exactly how they did it.

Hope this helps.

Work as an assistant for such a photographer for about a year.

You will 1) learn what equipment you will need, 2) how to run such a business and 3) what it costs to run such a business so you charge enough so you don't starve
