I started the generic accutane today, Sotret. Im worried about all the side effects, but from what i have been reading the first 2 months suck but then its so much better. Hope all goes well with anyone else on it!

Hi everyone!- I started Accutane today -80 mg per day. I wanted to thank everyone that repsodned to my ?'s re: their experience with Accutane. It took me quite a while to make a decision but I am happy with the decision. I will continue to check in and read all the posts and let everyone know how I am doing. Thanks, Maureen

Good luck. I am on day #13 with Amnesteen (another generic) and so far so good. I do have dry skin especially dry lips - using tons of vaseline or aquaphor which helps a lot and drinking tons of water at least 2 liters per day. I would say the first week my back broke out a bit more than it already was and my face remained the same. Niow that I am in the second week my back is a bit better but myn face has broken out - cysts under the skin. It is doable though not horrific. I have noticed that my skin is much less oily. Keep us updated how you are doing. How much are you taking per day? I am taking 80mg (I take a 40mg pill after breakfast and another after supper). Good Luck. Maureen

Hi Maureen,
Wishing you well in your journey on accutane. I was on it around four years ago and it cleared my mild/moderate acne in two months. Unfortunately it came back 1 year later, so I tried laser treatment as an alternative. This was a big mistake very expensive and painful, although it did keep it at bay till Noveraber 2006. Went to my Doc in January 2007 and told eight months to wait for an appointment!!! However, got a call today from the hospital with an appointment for tomorrow 1pm so I am very happy. We could keep each other company on our journey. Good Luck

Hi, I'm also starting accutane today. Do you take your pill at night or in the morning? anyways, good luck!!:)

I've been on it for 2 months, and let me say that it is not NEARLY as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. I've had a few bloody noses, constant chapped lips, but overall it is WELL worth it. Nothing too bad. Good luck to all:)

I'm taking 40mg once a day. I was told its best to start low to help curb some of the side effects. I hope this stuff works.

i was hesitant to start accutane also, but now i am 3 and a half months in and couldnt be happier with my decision. had mild/moderate acne for too long, too much damage to self esteem. now my skin is smooth and breakout free since about 1 month ago, just left with some red marks that can be taken care of after accutane treatment with chemical peels that will speed up the process of having completely clear skin.

A Reminder when taking accutane that it is absorbed by the fats you eat. so remeraber to take it with food , and also my doc told me it is better to take your pills seperatly through out the day...your body is more likely to absorb all of it. Sometimes it is to much for the body to absorb so it won't take it all in....just a reminder.

My derm said to take 1 (40mg) a day for the first week and then take two pills a day astrer that. She said I could take both together if that helped me to better remeraber both pills. Yesterday and today I took my one pill after breakfast and then I took 400 IU of Vitamin E a few hours later. Has anyone been taking Vit E along with the Accutane. She said it may help with some of the side effects. from what I read it should help with dryness.

I have been on and off Amnesteem like 4 times. The prob with me is that the drug causes my Tryglcerides to sky rocket. So I have to take a med called Tricor to lower them. I have had good results with the accutane though. It really cleared my skin.

Hi everyone,
I am thinking about starting Accutane...this will be my fourth time. I have taken the first blood/urine test, and I'll go back in one month to get the perscription (this whole i-pledge program is nuts!!!). I am hesitant about starting though because of the whole breakout thing. My acne isn't all that bad, but not good enough for me. I have graduation June 15th, and with the one month delay that puts me starting late April. So I forget, when do people start seeing clear skin??? Two and a half months????
-Hope

I'm so happy to hear how successful it has been for you. Like you, I would say I have mild/moderate acne but it didn;t respond to retin A and clindomycin never mind all of the other stuff I used throughout the years and I now have it on my back so it seemed like Accutane was going to be the only solution. I am still abit nervous about side effects but I will keep a close eye on it. Thanks for the support! Maureen

I would love to keep you company - this message board is very helpful and supportive. Good luck with your appt and let us know. Maureen

thanks for the reminder vdoe - I take everything with food anyway but I had also read that Accutane is absorbed better when taken with a meal with fats. I aggree about spacing out the pills an dplan to do so as well. Right now I take the accutane after breakfast, a few hours later, Vit E and then in the afternoon fish oil (I stopped taking my multivitamin b/c of the vit A in it). Maureen

i have 1 month left of accutane, stopped breaking out and have had no active spots since about 2 and a half months into treatment, i was just wondering if previous users of accutane who have experienced the OVERALL red appearance (NOT red marks that people say take months to heal) can tell me what to expect with regarRAB to this after i stop treatment in about a month. did your skin tone calm down soon after you stopped accutane, please give some insight, thanks.
