Start-up problem with INSPIRON 1300,screen flashes then goes blank?

Sometimes I can hear it running in background.Cannot open with keys.Other times it may start ,run for a few seconds then go black again.Also have seen a box flash that says going on stand-by.Running WIN XP Home. HELP!!!

If you screen is shutting off w/ nothing visible it most likely is your motherboard.
