Star Wars: Darth Vader a mummy's boy

So the most evil man in the universe (apart from the Emperor) became evil because his mummy was kidnapped and killed.

I feel cheated surely it should have been something more earth shattering or something?

Well I wouldn't try to enslave the galaxy that's for sure.

Having said that I do want to wipe out humanity, but that's just for fun.

In terms of the Star Wars franchise it's just a bit too easy, I'd have prefered something more darker, can't think what at the moment tho.

Oh please, anyone close being killed is upsetting, the mother thing is just so emotive and poor writing.

If I'd know that's why Darth Vader was in a mood in Star Wars: A New Hope, I wouldn't have taken him half as seriously.

Hang on, the film is massively cliched anyway, it's sodding Star Wars!!

However, the boy's been f**cked in the head since he was a kid and has massive power, more than anyone since Yoda if I recall (and my knowledge is decent, but sketchy). He has been complaining about his treatment and being held back since he was a teenager, and he gets a better offer.

I'd have taken it, and my mums alive. ;)

I quite like the look of Hayden in Episode III. He was pretty bad in II... But he looks the part in III much more.

Well its not the ONLY reason he turned to the dark side, but its part of the reason. I mean, how would you feel if you were a slave, who escaped but couldn't rescue his mother only to find out she had been kidnapped and killed?

Add on top of that the fact that no one will take him seriously... The emperor pushing his influence.... AdRAB up to some f***ed up sh**

sorry did i miss something?

Didn't he become Vader because of the Natalie Portman thing as well...trying to save the one he loved...

I saw it as he was tricked by Dark Sidious to come to the dark side to save Padme?

To be honest I haven't seen SW3 yet. I'm not sure how his relationship with Padme fails but you might be right that it is the 'straw that breaks the camels back'.

No problem :) :D

Another way to look at it - Anakin was from a one parent family who was taken into care at the age of nine by a group of religious fanatics. Asking for trouble that is. ;)

And he was a f**k up from the start!!

If they'd only listened to Yoda. Probably couldn't understand the pretentious, green muppet. ;)

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely

I was watching EPI the other day with my wife , the scene were Mace and Yoda discuss if Anakin should be trained.

Mace says he should be, but Yoda finally agrees to let Obi Wan train Anakin - my wife commented that maybe Mace maybe had more wisdom than Yoda, and that Yoda should have forsaw what was going to happen...

A few days later I was watching EP VI ( this isn't regular viewing in my house, I'm just having a refresher this week !) and realised (as Lucas has said) that Anakin's / Vader's actions need to be viewied over the course of all 6 episodes and not just the first 3.

Anakin is indeed the one who brings balance back to the force, and it is Anakin who destroys the Emperor, albeit 40 odd years after the Jedi Council first meet him......

Yes Anakin does bring back the balance to the force eventually... but only by slaughtering every Jedi in sight (except Yoda, who dies of old age... in fact I think the only Jedi who doesn't survive the films that isn't killed!) leaving only one left, and one with the potential to be a Jedi. (Leia)

Of course, that all changes later in the expanded series because Luke sets up a Jedi Academy, and his nephews Jacen and Anakin are pretty shit hot Jedi too.

Time for someone to bring the tone down.......but I thought Anakin went mental because he had met Jar Jar Binks........sorry.
But on a serious note Fizzbin, is EPS III as good as I am dreaming it is??

mrfreeze, have you even seen Revenge of the Sith yet??, If so were you even awake while watching it??

Anakin does not turn to the darkside solely because of his mother's death at all!!

SPOILERS!!!!!!!

Anakin turns to the darkside because; he keeps having nightmares of Padme dying (he loves this girl more then anything remember?) and therefore wants to make sure she does not meet the same fate as his mother did so he turns to Palpatine (the emperor) for help, he lies to Anakin and tells him the only way he can save her is to turn to the darkside. Anakin at first has doubts about Palpatine's advice but he eventually leaRAB himself to believe that all of his problems are because of everybody else around him (Obi-Wan etc) and lets his hatred consume him by attacking Mace Windu and letting the emperor kill him with his force lightning, he then turns to the darkside. The sith lord name of "Darth Vader" is given to Anakin by his new master emperor Palpatine. The emperor tells Anakin all of the Jedi etc are to be destroyed so he and the now enemy troopers do so. After Anakin has been suited up due to his accident in the Lava pit the emperor tells him that he killed Padme. Anakin thinks he did because he force chocked her right before fighting Obi-Wan when in fact she survived that attack by him out of anger and actually died giving birth to Luke and Leia.
