Star Trek: The Motion Picture

I watched this again last night (not having watched it for a while) and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was!

I seem to remember when I watched it the first time (many years ago) I thought it seemed slow and dull, and earned the nickname The Motionless Picture! But watching it again, the 2 hours flew by.

Such an engaging story, superb shots of the Enterprise and great to see the cast reunited.

Just wondered what others thought...

Is this the one with the bald girl saying 'kirk unit' and veeger..this is a great film and one of the best along with the one with the whales and the borg one..could watch them over and over.

Bald girl was the Indian actress Persis Khambatta, who passed away in 1998 at the age of 48 after suffering a massive heart attack.

TMP is far too grandiose and self important for the most part, and some of the rear projection visuals now look terrible. But it has it's merits, the main one being that because of TMP, Paramount made the brilliant TWOK! :D

It's nice to see there are actually fans of The Motion Picture around. I've often felt I'm the only one who liked the Star Trek mob playing it straight. I also felt the film looked pretty good in its tarted up Director's Edition, though those Klingon's did look at bit odd at the start!

I didn't know Persis had died, that's rather sad. :(

Oh and I see you're another 'Khaaaaannnnn!' fan. :D Strangely I've never really shared the enthusiasm that many feel for that film. But then again I walk the road less travelled in believing that 'Nemesis' was the best of the TNG films... Shows you what I know!

I also love ST:TMP, it's right up there with some of my all time favourite sci-fi's but I'm definitely no Star Trek fan, can't stand the other ST stuff (apart from ST:TWOK).

Thank the Lord!

There are others who enjoy it too! I watched The Director's edition - bloody brilliant! Next week, I'll be watching it with the commentary on!
