I really need to get myself a bluray player 
There will not be a Bluray of the Directors Cut and if there ever is it will be false.
The only thing the director came back to do was finish and improve special effects sequences that were never done to his liking at the time because there was a rush to get it released on time.
Unfortunately the new effects were all rendered in sd so cannot be transferred to Bluray - a very shortsighted move by Paramount.
As the director died any version with different effects will not be his version and to make it suitable for HD they would need new effects.
Star Trek 2 and 6 both appeared with additional scenes later on but I'm not sure either were Directors Cuts , they were simply extra scenes put back in to remarket the film.
WOK was not especially long so I doubt the director had to remove the scenes for time which is usually the reason bits are chopped out

While you're technically correct, there's little to stop Paramount from redoing Robert Wise's new TMP Director's Cut visuals in HD. It would still be the Director's Cut, just with indentical HD visuals. All the new visual effects were done digitally, and could easily be remastered in HD and put on the Director's cut master.
Also, the new version had some scenes cut out to increase the flow of the story.

Just get the DVD versions. They have been restored and look fantastic. I have the Next Gen set, upscalled in a blu-ray player, and they look identical to any blu-ray I own. The massive amount of difference in price for the bd and the dvd sets isn't worth it considering the quality is virtually identical, from what I can see.

Agreed. I've upscaled a few of my TNG DVD discs in ony of my Blu-ray players. It only played it 4:3 on a widescreen TV which wasn't much fun, and if you can show the picture full widescreen as I can on my other TV, there just isn't enough image quality in the original recordings to show them above 720p without the picture breaking up.
By the way, my 1-10 movies Blu-ray set is fantastic. The packaging's worth paying a tenner for itself. Don't expect much from the two bonus discs, although the Captain's Summit was fun for just over the hour it lasted.
