Standard Transmission Toyota - Road Noise?

I have a '93 Toyota Paseo - Standard Transmission - Steering Wheel/Drivers seat is oriented for American Roads.

When I get going above 20 mph I start to hear a scratchy noise - like the noise roller blade bearings make when they start to wear out or when they get a lot of dirt in them - only louder. The noise, when I drive, seems to come below me and to my right.

My CV shafts are fine. I've pulled my drivers side front wheel off and my outer wheel bearing *seems* fine and packed... I don't know much about wheel bearings or how the CV shaft articulates with the transmission area though so I'm a bit lost.

The noise has been apparent since I bought the car 2 or 3 years ago but it seems to have gotten louder lately.

thanks
