Stand-Up MRI vs Regular MRI

Both are equally safe but the newer open stand-up MRI is a great alternative for some patients who get claustrophobic in the "enclosed" conventional MRI machines. .
This new stand-ups also are great for people who may be obese- they can scan someone who weighs up to 400 pounds, so it provides tremendous accessibility that is not attainable with conventional MRI systems.

Best of all, the stand-ups can scan you in a multitude of positions..standing, sitting, sitting flexion, extension, rotation and lateral bending, as well as lying down. What's good about this is that, if necessary, the patient can get into the position that provokes the discomfort or pain they have been experiencing and they can be scanned quickly in that position which will give much more accurate diagnostic info.

Good luck!

No, I've only ever had conventional lie-down enclosed MRIs, but a friend of mine has had both kinds.

Thank You ZuZu, I ask because alot of people say that a stand-up MRI gives less details in the images. Would you or your friend know if this is true?
