Stage 1

I know this probably has been beat to death but I have been thinking about having a Stage 1 done to my '09 Ultra Classic. Can someone tell me what is involved in a Stage 1?
Thanks
Santa

It has been done to my 09 Ultra Classic and I say it is well worth the money...The bike is quicker, better sounding, and runs much cooler. The cooler part was why most folks do it...as to the "leaner statement"...not true...The heat reductions proves you are not leaner!!! My advise is to go for it...hope this helps...Also you asked what does it involve...well it involves new ECM programing if you go with the HD SERT ( which I did) and a SE air cleaner and pipes....all working together to make it happen!!!

I've done it to two bikes so far. An 07 Heritage with SE air filter, Bub Jug Huggers and ECM download and a 2010 Ultra Classic with SE air filter, V&H Dresser Duals, Rinehart slipons, and PCV. Both with good results and both ran cooler, a lot faster and with much better throttle response. Would suggest stage one as a must do for anybody.

don't you mean richer? it's already too lean. that's what makes them run hot.

I wouldn't do it! unles you want it to run cooler and sound better have a little more pep.

pipes or slip-ons, low restrictive a/c and a fule management system. personally, I'd stay away from a dealer download, doesn't do that much for richening it. go with an aftermarket like a Power Commander, V&H fuel pak, etc.

The cheapest way to do this is to start lookin' for deals on slip-ons, a good stage one Air Cleaner, like SE, or Ness.

When you have those 2 items then call Fuel Moto and tell them what you have and then order a PC-V for your bike for your pipes, and A/C.
Then, plug and play, basically...

You will gain HP+TQ(probably a 12-18 % increase) and your bike will run and sound better not to mention cooler.

if you're gonna go the Fuel Moto route - might as well get one of their power packages. get everything from one place. I doubt anyone will beat their price.

Actually I did mean leaner. Done the stage I, my bike ran worse than stock, and the pipe temp may have dropped but I couldn't tell it.
I called the fine folks at Fuelmoto and I was told the only thing a stage I download does is increase rpm. A stock 96" with a cat is not really going to see much benefit from an increase in rpm.
If I understand right, less restriction on the exhaust and AC translates into a lean condition without adding more fuel, especially at WOT.
So my question would be where is the proof that a stage I adds more fuel.
The people at fuel moto dont thinks so.
