Stabbing pain in rib cage?

Periodically I get a brief stabbing pain in my ribs close to/under my left breast. It doesn't last long but I can't inhale or exhale. I could relate it to a side stitch, which I'm well acquainted with, but these pains are spontaneous and come without warning. It lasts for maybe 3-5 seconds but its enough to stop my breathing and make me keel over. Its a good ways up my rib cage not close to my kidneys or anything.
 
I have them too, and the way you described them was a perfect mirror to what I experience. Random, alarming, electrocuting, and gone as quickly as they came. I have fibromyalgia and my GP told me that a symptom of these can be from this condition. They are not related to your heart's status so don't worry about them being short heart attacks.

Honestly I'm not sure why they happen, or how to stop them. :/
