what would it take to swap an sr20det into a 2003 mazda protege, there both 2.0s so it shouldnt be crazy.
they make transversely mounted fwd sr20's bro, so read up a little more

Not all sr20's are rwd Hank study your cars before u answer. Anywho just because they're the same liter doesn't make it easy. Motor mounts and placement of the engines could be different and also your wiring will have to change cuz Nissan isn't Mazda. Bow the sr20 your gonna want to look at is out of an SER if u decide to waste your money on a swap like this. Honestly your better off buying a Nissan cuz the cost will be way cheaper. And the sr20 is gonna have to be boosted separately cuz those models arnt.

"there both 2.0s so it shouldnt be crazy"

Mazda protege:1)Mazda, 2)FWD.
SR20DET (s13): 1)Nissan, 2)RWD.

What it would take? About 4 grand in parts, a month, and a machine shop. Not including suspension reinforcement. Basically the result is a car that get's whooped most modern cars...like mid 14's in the 1/4.

FYI, Mazda makes some fantastic turbocharged 4 cylinders. Look into the BP-T for proof. 1.8L turbo 4 cylinder that, in the GT-R, makes 210hp, and is capable of holding 35psi+ boost stock, which is probably close to or over 500whp, on par with the SR20 really, and it's .2L smaller. Also, I think Mazda made a turbo 2.0 from that generation 323 in Japan, but don't quote me on that. I know they made a 200hp N/A version, but I think there was a turbo version too.
