Squidward Winning

So, has anyone else noticed Squidward is winning a lot more in Spongebob now? Almost all of the time in the earlier seasons he would lose at the end of the episode. Then in "Band Geeks," arguably the best episode of Spongebob, it was a nice twist to see him win for once. But this season he has been winning frequently. I kind of like seeing Squidward have his way once in a while, but it is starting to get a little bit out of character for him. Do you think the writers are overdoing it?

If he's doing something right (ala Band Geeks) he should win. If he's being a complete jerk (ala that April Fools episode) he should lose. And sometimes, he kind of gets both (the Christmas episode). It's a nice balance.

Classic Squidward is the best, but the show has been around for like a decade now so they're just trying to do something different.

Episodes with Squidward winning/getting the last laugh:

Opposite Day (1999)
Hooky (2000)
Graveyard Shift (2002)
Best Day Ever (2006)
The Great Snail Race (2003)
Born To Be Wild (2007)
Band Geeks (2001)
House Fancy (2008)
Pranks A Lot (2004)
Not Normal (2008)
Krabby Road (2008)
Spongicus (2008)

Episodes with Squidward winning, but losing at the end:

Suction Cup Symphony (2008)
Jellyfishing (1999)
The Thing (2007)

Episodes with Squidward losing (Even though he didn't deserve it):

Can You Spare A Dime? (2002)
Squillam Returns (2002)
Squid On Strike (2001)
Squid Wood (2007)
Squidtastic Voyage (2006)
Boating Buddies (2008)
Fools Is April (2000)
The Paper (2000)
Dying For Pie (2000)
Krusty Towers (2006)
Good Neighbors (2005)
SquidBob Tentaclepants (2005)
Ghost Host (2006)
Breath Of Fresh Squidward (2007)

Episodes with Squidward losing, even though he DID deserve it:

The Camping Episode (2004)
Home Sweet Pineapple (1999)
Skill Crane (2005)

And good for them. I just hope it all won't be the same kind of different as in that awful new episode "Boating Buddies", where Spongebob got turned into this horrible clingy imbecile that would drive anyone - not just cranky old Squidward - mad.

You put that under Squidward losing when he didn't deserve it? Squidward promised Spongebob in that episode that he wouldn't do anything if Spongebob didn't prank him. Spongebob kept his end of that deal, but Squidward broke it. He deserved what he got in that one.

Agreed. Now that was truly an instance where Squidward didn't deserve what Spongebob gave him (not to mention how OOC it was for Spongebob to give it to him to start with.)

Yeah, but SpongeBob's insane laughing, and his lame April Fools jokes on other people made The Squidinator lose it.

Seriously, who would want to be aggravated by someone like SpongeBob, even if they aren't the ones being bothered directly by The Sponge?

Yeah, but Spongebob's pranks didn't involve physical pain/suffering/humiliation like Squidward's did. What Squidward did was above and beyond uncalled for.

I think it's a good idea to have Squidward winning occasionally - it balances out the characters as to prevent stereotypes. I don't like characters that ALWAYS lose. (Unless they're a Warner Bros. character :B)

Quoted for truth. I've learned to enjoy how the episodes featuring Squilliam have been going. Squidward won the first round in "Band Geeks," then his rival got the better of him in "Squilliam Returns," and now Squidward comes out on top in "House Fancy." Keeps viewers on their toes.
