Assuming he replaced the bad engine with a junk yard engine did he replace belt?
Once they sit for a while they dry rot and squeal like a stuck pig. If belt is new probably has a pulley/pump problem like the above poster mentioned. Try some belt dressing spray to see if it helps. If it does not help you definitely have a pump/pulley issue with the replacement motor.
