squeaking hardbags

I'm starting to notice my hardbags are talking ! They are squeaking up a storm at idle. Are the mounts and such just starting to vibrate apart and need tightening ? ....just the usual maintenance with blue locktite ???

Are you sure it's not the rubber on your muffler mounts? I siliconed mine and the squeak went away for a while. I have the new rubbers to put in, just haven't done it yet. I've heard it is a common problem.

Just grab your muffler and see if it has any movement/play under the saddle bag. The chirping was driving me crazy until I figured out what it was. I had a new replacement rubber spacer but the fit was identical in size to what was already there. I couldn't tighten it enough to snug it up to the rubber spacer so I simply inserted a shim to fill the space. That was at least 15 - 20,000 miles ago. Haven't heard any chirping since.

i'll also bet its the rubber in the muffler/saddlebag support. just spray it with some lubricant and you should be good to go.

New rubber mounts are only a few bucks each. Clean all the metal with alcohol before replacing. They last longer in an oil free environment.

I just spray that rubber piece under the bag with WD-40 when it starts squeaking. Last spray lasted me about a year, it is due for a spray about now.
