sounds like it,s out of time about a hair. hook up a timing light to it. if it has points then they could have slipped a little. it also could be the vacuum advance too. make sure it pulls in when you start it and also make sure the hose is hooked up right. it,s not suppose to be hooked to the intake, it,s suppose to be hooked on the ported side of the carburetor( above the throttle plate on the carburetor) so it can advance itself when you give it gas.

When my car is idling it is fine, but when I put it in gear, and give it some gas it sputters so much it almost cuts off. When it manages to get up to speed it still sputters and has no power.
Engine: 455 Pontiac
Transmission: 400 turbo X
Rear End: 3.9 gears
Mileage: 22,863
I have replace the whole ignition system and the timing is right and new fuel pump and line. Also how do tune a 750 quad jet carburetor.
It has high energy ignition.
Back firing out the carbuter.
