sprint workouts.........?

I used to jog before lifting for about 15 mins at 8.5 mph but i decided sprinting may be more effective. How do i go about doing sprint workouts. I use the treadmill btw and im not sure if i should sprint for like a min take a 30 sec break then sprint again. It seems like it would be really tiring if i did it like that so im not sure if thats how it should be done.
