Sprint HTC Hero Message Notification just Vibrates with no sound?

I have a Sprint Htc Hero, and when I get a text message it only vibrates, I have the vibrate set to off, and I have a sound set for the notifications, and every time I get a message it just vibrates, is there any way to fix this.
