I've posted on this before but thought perhaps there might be new "options" available - and some of you might know of one. . . .
Docs2Go (Sheet To Go) changes the amount of RAM needed for a spreadsheet, bloating it bigger and bigger until you hotsync. Then it returns to "normal." If you're not hotsynching regularly, a 12k spreadhseet can exceed 20k on the handheld, and all I can think of is that it's "temp add-on" info waiting to be synched. Not good if you don't synch that sheet often. Furthermore if you restore a sheet from the SD Card backup, and don't ALSO restore the Database file for Docs2Go, it won't recognize the restored sheet. Cripes.
TinySheet doesn't do that, but the desktop interface is a nightmare and occasionally (2 nights ago for me) SHUT DOWN hotsynch, crashed the T3 three times (with a hard white screen/frame, "push in the button's the only way to clear" type crash!) . . . and subsequently WIPED OUT all the sheets on the desktop. Re-synching after reinstalling the program simply put a "1" in front of the sheets, and trying to clear those with handheld overwrites CRASHED IT AGAIN. It was a nightmare a year ago and still is, and furthermore has been discontinued by Iambic (which probably saved me $100 in upgrades!!)
Synopsis:
Handheld: TinySheet's good.
Desktop: Docs2Go is good, if you don't mind 30MB on the PC and 2MB on the handheld to synch 2-3 spreadsheets.
Yikes. There must be a bettter way to have the option of "Excelling" a sheet and putting it on the the handheld, and/or synching sheets on the handheld with other than an SD Card backup so you can view on the PC. I've heard of QuickSheet . . . but before I lay out $39-49 (whatever) for YET ANOTHER spreadhseet app (I bought WordSmith and FAstWriter before deciding that TealDoc combined with the FREEWARE TextSync 1.03 from SourceForge did a better job and more quickly!) . . . .
are there any freeware ones worth a darn? I don't need "pretty," although cell coloring is a big deal with me . . . often freeware (like the new video player, Filez, etc) can be better than what we all shelled out for . . . just wondering what some of you use. If all id did was allow Excel to be viewed and edited, I could live with that.
I yanked Docs2Go/Sheet2Go off the PC and the T3 and am currently using Tiny Sheet . . . but uninstalled the conduit. I uninstalled EVERY conduit app and then Palm Desktop, reinstalled everything from scratch and have been having the fastest hotsynchs ever yesterday and today. I'd like to keep it that way but find an alternative to T/Sht and Sheet2Go. I really don't feel like putting the 6-7 apps/libraries/etc of Docs2Go back on the handheld with a bloated desktop conduit, only to have sheets change radically in size until they're synched.
Thanks for listening to the rant . . .it shouldn't be that hard to have a spreadsheet synched!
I'm out of town up North until Tuesday but would appreciate any input and I'll reply then.
Cheers all
