Spray Painting on Canvas- having problems?

I've been using spray paint on canvas, and I'm having this problem where after a few different coats of spray paint, a new layer will end up 'crumpling' the paint under it, and the entire crumpled area will just come right off the canvas, leaving absolutely nothing under it but the canvas and gesso itself.

Afterwards, a new coat of paint will usually fail to adhere to that bare section of the canvas. It seems like it happens no matter how thin I make the coat.

Does anyone know how I can avoid this?
