I need some advice on how much exercise I can do when following a sprained ankle.
Last Tuesday I was trying to walk in a field while my leg was asleep and my ankle rolled and I fell to the ground. It hurt so bad for the first two days, but it never really was swollen or anything. I went to the doctor and got an aircast and an x-ray. He said that everything was fine, it was a sprain and to just follow RICE and I would be OK.
The problem is, I have recently become a bit of an exercise addict, and after spraining my ankle, I thought it best to forgo the gym for a bit...but how long?! My ankle feels fine while walking, especially in the aircast, but even barefoot with no external support it doesn't hurt and I don't limp. The only time it really hurts at all is if the angle between the top of my foot and the front of my leg gets much smaller than a 90 degree angle. This makes walking and climbing stairs easy, but descending stairs a little bit tougher.
My biggest question is when can I get back to walking on the treadmill at 3.5 mph at a low incline and get back to my strength training class? In the weeks prior to the sprain I lost 2 pants sizes in 2 weeks...and then I gained a pound in the 3 days following the sprain. I don't want to gain any more weight, and I have cut my calories enough that I should start to lose again, but I need the exercise too!
