Any possibility this could have happened because you were not running a compensated gear off the crank? With the runout on these new motors being a problem for some gear drive cam changes, I suspect an excessive runout off the crank side may have made the race walk. Have you checked the runout on this side of the crank? A runout on the crank all the way out to the end of the threads is possible by using a very thin piece of shim stock under the dial indicator probe while turning the crank. Just speculating or saying this might be the problem.

It's not an uncommon problem (as you're probably aware).

Check out the S&S mainshaft bearing race. I have not installed one, but I've heard it works very well, and won't walk into the seal.

From what I understand the S&S race won't fit the newer bikes, same thing with the Baker bearing as well. In any event, I have the tool I grabbed from the shop so I'm going to swap it out and hope for the best. I'm going back in with the SE comp anyway so if the 30T had something to do with it then it will be null now.

It's all fixed. Borrowed the installer/remover from the shop and pulled the old one off and put a new one on where it is supposed to be.

Looking at mine right now....It looks like the picture Dawg posted...The front of the race is perfectly level with the inner case. I'm assuming the measurement taken was the length of the race ? sticking out from the back of the hub on the clutch pack gear?

Anybody else that has replaced the comp care to chime in on what they saw as far as the picture dawg posted......
