Sports Bikes/Bullet Bikes/Speed Bikes - Comfortable enough to travel how far?

I want to get a Bullet Bike. What kind would you recommend in terms of value, performance, and that I have never owned one before?

I rarely see them on the freeway though. Are they comfortable enough to 200 miles? 1000 miles? Could I take it from California to New Jersey and still have feeling down there?
