sport vs sport touring motorcycles?

I really want to get a sport bike, but I'm having trouble deciding on what I should get, 3 to 5k is the budget. I like the comfort of a touring bike, but I don't want to sacrifice power for comfort and I don't want to sacrifice comfort for speed. I've been told that touring bikes aren't nearly as powerful as sport bikes. Are there touring bikes that could rival a sports bike? Can touring bikes be moded to keep up with a sport bike.

Any suggestions or ideas on makes and models or thoughts is appreciatied

That's why I bought a sport touring bike, a Honda Interceptor. You can get nice factory hardbags for it. It has alot more leg room than a real sport bike. It has a wide power band, it has a jeckel and hyde engine that is lots of fun and sounds like it eats babies. You can get a good used one if you look hard and are patent.

of course you can. consider a kawasaki ninja zx-12r or suzuki hayabusa. used ones are definitely in ur price range. the previous answerer mentioned the interceptor which is another great bike and it has loads of torque. honda made a blackbird 1100xx a while ago its an underrated bike very nice. also check the yamaha fz1 aka "naked r1." if you want to go smaller look for ducati st2 and st4 or yamaha yzf600r thundercat. hope that helps.

Sacrifice speed for comfort, a big sport bike can go 150MPH and most ppl only get to about 100 for very short periods. Bike speeds are determined by power/ weight and aerodynamics So instead of 150 for 20 minutes ,go for 135 for 45 minutes assuming you could find the road.
There are no absolutes but comfort is better in every case but racing.
Any good road tour bike is faster than than you really want , but their added weight comes at the expense of maneuverability and braking thaT'S WHY THEY ARE HAPPY ON interstates but only content on the windy highway
