Sport Rider review of 1198

How funny, they too call them "Ninja type" when they want to speak about sportbikes up here!
Too dumb to use the term sportbikes I guess.

As for a chunk of the population knowing what a Duc is,its simply because of the fact that they know its worth a gazillion dollars in their mind...just like a Ferrari.

How lame but the truth.

It appears from your statement below that your "opinion" made it pretty clear that mine was wrong. If you'll note, I said "many non-motorcyclists." And many non-motorcyclists I've spoken with have acted just as I stated. Perhaps you have not seen that, and that is fine; but telling me I was wrong, which is essentially what you did, and not having interacted with all the people who do not own motorcycles is a bit presumptuous. Don't you think?

My intent was not to ruffle feathers, but if someone says that I'm wrong, then I am well within my right to respond. Yes, perhaps it could have been done more tactfully, but where is the fun in that?

The first time I laid eyes on a Ducati was in a motorcycle mag back in '95ish... Cycle World maybe??
I had never seen a bike quite like this rosso 916...
That day I told myself - and everyone else - I will own a Ducati in my lifetime.
April 25, '08 was that day.
As I look at my Ducati on it's paddock stand that familiar feeling of awe and admiration that I felt over a decade ago comes back to me. In my eyes, this is a functional work of art.
Do I believe that Ducati motos and their riders are somehow entitled to be revered or be held in regard apposed to the rider that prefers a CBR or YZF?
Not at all... Ride what you want or whatever you can afford.
I'll share the road with anyone - the only exception being the punks that give responsible riders a bad name... I'm all set without them.
"It's not the bike, it's the rider", is a statement that is true in so many aspects.
I'll ride with a group of cruisers - as long as it's composed of good people.
There's nothing saying they can't be lost when the road gets twisty - or any other time for that matter.

Note that this is all just an opinion and was substantiated only by my own experiences and beliefs...
If there's anyone in the Central Maine area that wants to put some miles on when it warms up, please let me know!!
Ride safe.

never thought of the 848?
I had it before my 1098 and it was simply the best.
I -yet- havent taken my 1098 to the track but I already feel the extra power... and I must say... the best thing about the 848 is that you can squeeeeeeeze every HP out of it...
many 1098 owners say the 1098 is almost too much power... go figure for the 1198
..just a thought..

Can't say that I need anymore power - my animal brain wants more however. Speaking of which...
Dealer called me this morning, 143hp on the dyno.
Is this on-par with others running only slip-ons?
