Sport Psychology - professional vs. amateur?

I am taking an exam in the morning, and I'm having trouble understanding why sport psychology is so important at professional levels, but not as important at lower levels of skill. Is it just because professional sports are more important in general? I'm sure there's more to it than that, but I'm not sure what. Any help would be appreciated!

I wouldn't say that professional sports are more important than amateur sports. There are far more people involved everyday in amateur sports than in professional and there wouldn't be professional sports if there wasn't any amateur sports. Sport psychology is more important in professional sports because there's a greater level of competitiveness and because of the financial investment and expectation of profit.
