See if any of you all can make sense of this. Had my bike in for inspection and told the service dept that the front brake lever was spongy, would pump up ok on second or third pump. The service manager told me that HD advises not to bleed these brakes. Dang, make me scratch my head. Anyone figure this out?

Do you have to pump them constantly or is this only on the first use of the day? Hell, it shouldn't matter actually as this ain't normal! I would at least check all brake connections for tightness just to be safe.

My 08 service manual explains how to bleed the brakes. Doesn't make sense they would have that in the manual if they do not want you to bleed them....never heard of anything so crazy.By the way mine are not ABS.

+1 ... I have ABS and my brakes are right there right now !!! You do need to use Digital Technician II to bleed the ABS system when required ... If your dealer does not know that this can be done you may want to try another !!

I know with abs vehicles with hydraullic brakes you need a breakout box to bleed abs brakes, Im sure it is to jump or bypass the sensors so you dont create abs codes. May be the same for bikes too.

Yeah! Find a new dealer!

Spongy brakes always means you have air in the system. Why? Could be a number of things. If you aren't comfortable doing it yourself take to a mechanic that knows what the heck they are doing. Certainly not your old dealer.
