When you complete the quest where you poison the emperor's double you find out that Astrid betrayed you and that the Empire betrayed her. When you arrive back at the sanctuary its on fire full of Imperial thugs. How is this possible? You need the password to get in, some would say they broke in yet the door is fully intact and in the same place as it was when you left to kill the emperor. Not only this but to those who would say that Astrid gave him the password...no she did not she wouldn't have her goal in turning me in was to keep the Dark Brotherhood safe and so it would not make sense for her to have done that. So what I am getting here is that they mysteriously gained access to a place that is protected by a door which is fully intact and requires a password...
There were no mages there only warrior type imperials.
What I am saying is though yes there are mages that could have done it, none were there I was not hit by any spells therefore no mages were present, no mages, no unlocked door, no entry.
