Hi

I picked you because since you have a post you must know how to post a message on a certain board..I have a spinal cord stimulator that was implanted in 2007. I want it removed because I contracted MRSA in the knee because I couldn't have a MRI. The stimulator no longer works. I was in serious condition in the hospital with MRSA. I had to have another knee surgery to flush everything out of the knee and then had 42 days of antibiotics (4 bottles a day) that was taken in my chest through a "gro shung" port. This medicine had to be given every 12 hours. To make a long story short, I wouldn't have had to have the first knee surgery if I had been able to have an MRI. That is why I want this scs out of me as soon as possible.

Do you know how I can post a message without having to reply privately to someone?

Thank you.

Has anyone ever had a spinal cord stimulator removed? Were you put to sleep or was it a local? I decided after a case of MRSA that I want to be able to have MRI's again. I got MRSA from the surgery that I didn't even need. Doctor would have known if he had been able to look at a MRI.

Thanks

Hi there, how are you today?

To start a new thread you need to click on FIND A BOARD (which is under the search bit, 7th heading in white writing on the blue line) to find a board that is related to the topic of your new thread, choose the board that you want to make a new thread on then click on NEW THREAD, and a box will come up and just type in your title then underneath you type your message, I hope this is what you meant???

Am really sorry to hear about you getting MRSA, is there a reason why your scs isn't working? Is it a hardware fault or something?? How long did it work for or has it never worked? Has it ever helped with your pain releif

I had my 1st scs trial in sept 08, and I got an infection at the site of my exit wire wound, and I was really scared that it was some kind of hospital bug, I hope you have recovered well from it. take care & speak soon x

sorry you have had to go thru that. i do know its a pretty bad type of infection to have to deal with. i am wondering here if you were told when that SCS was implanted, about just what would be left behind if it ever had to be removed? to my knowledge of these things, since i was contemplating trying it for my pain, i did do some rather in depth research on them, you can remove the actual "unit' but once those electrodes are cemented in those themselves remain behind, which would still create a problem with getting an MRI. this alone was the main reason i opted out since i simply have to be able to obtain both MRI and MRA for monitoring purposes.

the trodes just create that same issue despite that unit being removed. unless they have somehow changed what the trodes are made out of you would still not be able to handle the magnetism involved with simply having MRI. i would check with the actual manufacturer about this very subject since they would actually know the most real info on their own product. there used to be just one manu of this and that was medtronics, but i do know that other ones are also out there now too. you should have been given a card with their name on it or you can ask the implanting doc about this and who actually manufactured it. this would just be the very best place for your specific needed info on "your' unit.

i do wish you luck with this and do hope possibly they are making the trodes out of something like titainium these days, which IS MRI compatable. i actually have titainium in my c spine and also platnum coils in my brain from an aneurysm coiling and both metals are okay with MRI,so who knows ya know? just get YOUR specific info on YOUR unit to know for certain. please keep us posted. Marcia
