If I'm fishing for bass and carp which is more important? I'm looking to get something decent from Cabela's in the $100-130 range for the total cost of the two.Any ideas?
buy one of their own brands of combos. it will be a good match and their rods/reels are built by the same quality manufacturers of name brands. usually with extra features for the same money or less.
if you like to use spinning gear buy a spinning rig if you like baitcasters likewise. If you want to become a better casting fisherman buy a baitcaster set-up but don't buy a two piece rod I would also think medium heavy at least and 6' - 6 1/2' length (bass pro shop rods I think are way more for the money) and get the one that is most comfortable in your hands casting and retrieving.
