Speed sensor on a 1996 Suzuki Sidekick?

How much trouble is it to replace or repair a speed sensor on a 1996 Suzuki Sidekick? Won't pass smog until its repaired. Stopped working after engine rebuild.
Any insight out there?

the codes listed on the failed smog results sheet are;
P0171 System to lean (Bank 1)
P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor

What code are you getting? Car will not fail for bad speed sensor but it will fail for check engine light and on 96 it was a maintenance light not a actual computer fault light unless it was built for California emissions.

I am also fairly certain the engine will not run with a failed speed sensor.

Anyway, post back with code if you have one.
