I currently tutor a child who's enrolled in special education. He seems very intelligent and when I asked what was wrong with him and why he isn't in "normal" classes, his parents told me there was nothing "wrong" with him. He was born healthy and everything. The only problem with him is that he doesn't seem to like to interact with people and have trouble communicating with others. He's going into fourth grade and his math is probably at the right level but his english I would say at best is at the 2nd grade level. I can't seem to make him pay much attention except when doing math. I fear that he doesn't understand what he's reading and thus have trouble with word problems and reading. I was wondering if anyone have any suggestions as to how I can help him understand what he's reading.
PS. I can't tell him to read a book and then explain to me what the story is about because he refuses to do so. Whenever I tell him to do that he would scream. I was thinking about some fun exercises that may help him. Thanks in advance.
