On Southwest Airlines, how soon you get to board depends on how soon you check in. If you remember 24 hours in advance, you get priority seating. If not, you get to hope you don't get stuck with a crap seat. Southwest A-List checks you in automatically, 24 hours before your flight, so you don't actually have to remember.
