South Park - "Insheeption" - Talkback [10/20]

To be honest, I only think Family Guy has gotten better. As more time goes by it's harder and harder for me to watch earlier episodes because they just seem so bland and forced to me, as if it's trying so hard to just be a slightly edgier Simpsons. On the other hand, I watch old South Parks (well season 3ish and pretty much everything to around season 8) and wonder why the show can't still be like that. Family Guy has changed somewhat but it's still the same basic show with the same dynamics. South Park, meanwhile, seems like a completely different show to me, just up it's own rear with trying to be topical and current.

Sigh, another Family Guy vs South Park debate? This isn't targeted at anyone in particular, but isn't this old? It's as annoying as DC vs Marvel; Star Trek vs Star Wars; Coke vs Pepsi; and no one has anything new to say. At all.

Besides, "The Venture Bros" kicks both of their asses. Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick are way more talented than Matt, Trey, and Seth. ;)

That being said, Matt and Trey were dumbasses. If you're going to parody a movie, WATCH IT!

Just a quick friendly mod reminder here. Please keep on topic with discussing the actual episode, instead of talking about the qualities/debates of other shows. Those can be fine topics to discuss, but not in a talkback thread and I don't want this thread to go off-topic even further. Please resume with discussing this particular episode of South Park. Thank you.

Just learned about this. Combined with the recent accusations of plagiarism for this episode, I can't help but feel disappointed with Trey and Matt. They really should have just waited for the DVD to arrive. It might have been late to the punch, but we could have gotten a better episode out of it.

Agreed, that should be the basic rule of parody/satire. You have to know your subject before cracking jokes at it, especially with something like Inception. It's like if I made a parody of Alpha and Omega, a film that I have no desire to see, it wouldn't be a good parody, now would it, if I didn't know anything about it?

Like I said earlier, this is kind of a downgrade from their take on 300, where at least, I got the impression that Trey and Matt saw the movie, or at the very least, read the graphic novel it was based on, considering how many cues they took from the movie, shot-for-shot.

Wow. That's pretty sad.

"So... uh... Inception came out over the summer."
"Yeah god the fans for that were so annoying I didn't even go see it."
"Ooh, that could be an episode! Look up Inception videos! Oh here's one from CollegeHumor, that must totally be an exact transcript of the movie!"

I know they do it in a week, but seriously?! Seriously, dudes?! Super disappointed.

They should've waited a bit. After all it's not like it would've been the first time they delay an episode. "Great expectations" was delayed (It was 405 in production order and it aired as 411)

IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN INCEPTION IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU IGNORE THIS POST

You know that spinning top in the movie, if they had seen Inception it might have been a dreidel in the SP ep. with a cheeky cartman vs. kyle joke thrown in

They never said they haven't seen the movie. It is plausible they saw it 3 months ago. If you're gonna do a parody of a movie, you need to at least rewatch it once to study it and they couldn't find a way to watch it again, so they mistakenly thought those lines were in the movie.

They didn't outright say they hadn't seen the movie. Honestly, this is the first time South Park has ever been accused of joke theft and their excuse sounds believable.

Honestly, I thought they had seen the movie since,

the Japanese guy had been shot.

How would you know that without seeing the movie? I mean it's not some joke they made about the film. It was just there.

EDIT: I'm a moron who didn't read the article in the last page. Was the above spoiler in the CollegeHumor video?
