Sound card and headset problem?

My old sound card the one on the mother board burned out so bought another one. Whenever I use my USB headset the sound fades out like it did it before but when I use my other headset where I plug the sound and mic directly back into the sound card the sound dosent fade out? How can I use my USB headset without the sound fading out?
