Sony Vegas rendering (Photoshop related)?

I've been using Sony Vegas to color clips and then use those frames to make GIF images in Photoshop. I know with the "Import Video Frames to Layers" options you can save yourself a lot of trouble, but Photoshop only seems to take .mov or .mp4 videos. I didn't think Sony Vegas rendered movies in .mov (and when they render it in .mp4 it messes up the dimensions) but I just decided to try it again the other night with a movie and it worked, rendered it perfectly and I could open it and get frames in Photoshop. All my movies are .avi files, so I'm not sure why this one worked and none of the others...

Anyways.
Is there a way to get Vegas to output .mov files (all you get now is audio, no video) or to get Photoshop to accept other video formats? Thanks.
