sony vaio wont boot up any advice?

I have a Sony Vaio (vgn series) which has had a few problems over the past 6 months (turns off at any time loose power cord battery don't hold any charge) anyway today after turning itself off it takes me past the Vaio screen to the windows error recovery screen here im given 5 choices safe mode, safe mode with networking safe mode with command prompt last known good configuration or start windows normally however what ever i choose im taken to the black screen with the small microsoft box at the bottom where here it trys to load (the bars are scrolling across) but then it takes me back to the Vaio screen again and back once again to the windows error recovery screen ive try ed all options safe mode etc etc and it Always takes me back to the vaio screen i purchased this used from CEX approx 18 months ago now and wasn't given any discs what do you advise i do with this i don't wish to sell it for parts on ebay without first taking my information off the laptop but as i cant actually get it to load im in a no win situation , can i get a disc to reinstall windows or what ?any advice be great
