Sony Vaio screen start up problem?

So i turn on my sony vaio, and the screen is on.. it works perfectly, and windows loads up. after it loads, i can hear the windows sounds indicating that the computer is on and i need to type in a password. however, by the time i hear this sound, the screen is blank and nothing comes up on the monitor.

any ideas whats wrong?
