Sony out of the PDA business?

I was set to buy the TH55, BUT I'm really concerned about Sony leaving the PDA business. What kind of support will I get if I ever need it? Now I'm looking into the Palmone Tungston T3, but I really feel the TH55 is a better deal. Any comments?

The TH55 is a good PDA. I'd personally rather have a TH55 than a T3. However, the support issue is real. Sony wasn't all that good with support when they were still in the PDA business and I can't imagine that situation will get better now. In addition, almost all "new" TH55's are being sold as refurbished with only a 90 day warranty. I guess it comes down to your tolerance for risk. :(

To add to Jim's comments, Sony has disabled new registrations for their developer community. We will likely begin to see more and more software that does not support the Clie.

Months ago I had three friends ALL OF WHOM sent back their Clie for servicing, and weren't happy.

Increase that number now to FIVE friends.

I wouldn't personally buy a Sony PDA - although I'd buy just about anything ELSE Sony made. My 717 camera is amazing.

As for the software, it may turn out that the developers are so fed up with OS6 nightmares they WILL IN FACT continue to support OS5, and since so many are writing now for Sony that number may not drop much - which of course would be great for Sony users. I think there are just too many "in the marketplace" to ignore and hopefully OS5 stuff (which I WILL BE looking for!) will continue to support the "older models" -- older being Sony's and the T1/T2/T3/TE series handhelds.

Let's hope so anyway - I'm counting on it, believe me.
