Sony Misses PS3 Targets in Japan

I guess it's true, every cloud does have a silver lining. Whatever you have to cling to so you can sleep in your sony bedsheet and pajamas at night.

No one really... unless you want to base your statistics on how a system is doing over in Japan on how it will do here in the States. Having said that, the 360 is flourishing over here and doing dismal in Japan. But usually Sony doesn better in Japan than it does in the States... if that says anything about those statistics.

And I'm glad to see the DS is still doing good... although I'd like to see a larger array of "good" games for the system. And more online would be fantastic.

Yet, in the HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray thread it was said that the Japanese have fully embraced Blu-Ray. So, where did the Japanese buy their Blu-Ray players if they didn't buy PS3s? Someone is lying.

I've read that FF XII looks better on the PS2 than on the PS3. In which case the Japanese may be waiting for FF XIII to come out before they buy a PS3. Or it could be a back lash from Sony originally cutting back the PS3 alottment to Japan. Or it could just be that they don't see any great release titles and are waiting for the RPGs to come out. Or it could just be economics, like in the States. You could buy a new bed for $650 or you could buy a PS3. It then becomes a matter of priorites. So when better games come out, perhaps then PS3 sales will rise.

Basically it is a Zelda clone. (Just like most platformers are Mario clones.) But most importantly it is the first 360 game that the Japanese like.

ive heard some crazy things about it

i think people care because since there are a lot of game developers that are japanese companies, they will only develop games/exclusives for the system that has a greater audience. it doesnt pay to create a game for a console that only has an install base of 460K compared to 1mm for wii etc. etc.

and im only saying this because of the industry rumors of the costs to develop these games for the new gen consoles. rumors of a developer having to sell 500k to 1mm units to just break even. and then youd have to develop and program that game across multiple platforms using different processors and media.

fwiw, just my .02
