sony ericsson K850i problem - cannot be switched on. how?

i have found taking the battery out then putting it back in again works for me??
 
i have this sony ericsson K850i and it cannot be switched on all of a sudden, i tried to charge it etc but it didn't work. its not under garentee anymore, and i've called and asked, the repair costs sround 100-150 dollars, i feel that it is not worth it. is there a way to enable it to switch back on/restart the system without having to pay etc?
