Sony Blu Ray, Time Warner Cable Box, and Panasonic HDTV, how to connect them all?

So the directions told me to plug my HDMI cable from the cable box to the blu ray player, and then another HDMI cord from the Blu Ray to the TV. However when i select HDMI 2 on my input settings on the TV (my xbox has an HDMI plugged into the first input) i can only get the Blu Ray player. How do I get the cable box to play and how do i get there?
