Song of the decade

Did you miss the point of the thread? Aside from the whole its what song goes with each decade for the individual person. I don't see whats so surprising or wrong with using Smells Like Teens Spirit, it was Nirvanas biggest hit and a huge song for the 90s.

I didn't say it was surprising, I honestly expected nothing less than that. Ice, Ice, Baby was a huge song for the 90s and Vanilla Ice's biggest hit, so according to your logic it should be used.

60's - Bob Dylan - Blowin' in the Wind
70's - Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody/Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
80's - The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star (yeah, it was released in 1979 but it represents the decade for me, and is pretty damn close anyway)
90's - Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (Yeah, it really does represent 90's music)
00's - The White Stripes - Fell in Love With a Girl

50's - meh chuck berry - johnny B goode
60's Bob Dylan = like a rolling stone
70's Pink floyd - welcome to the machine
80's minor threat - look back and laugh

00's cant change everything- 1905

50's: Jerry Lee Lewis - Great Balls Of Fire.
60's: The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows.
70's: Black Sabbath - Paranoid.
80's: The Smiths - What Difference Does It Make.
90's: Pulp - Common People.
00's: Brand New - Jesus Christ On A Bike.

I'm probably going to end up changing this...

50's: Chuck Berry "Johnny B. Goode" (Back to the future ftw)
60's: The Beatles "Revolution 1"
70's: The Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop"
80's: The Smiths "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"
90's: Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
00's: Bright Eyes "Let's Not Shit Ourselves (To Love and to Be Loved)"

This is virtually impossible. Maybe a list representing different genre's would make this easier.
Below (with the exception of the 50's and 60's) are immediate choices from memory.
Not representative of my personal taste, but they sprung to mind straight away.

I chose 2ish for each category so that we might get more variety in the choices, you can chose which one is better if you want.

50's - Buddy Holly- Everyday/Elvis Presley- Jailhouse Rock
60's - Beatles- Lucy in the Sky with DiamonRAB/ Beatles- Yellow Submarine/Beatles-All You Need is Love (some song by the beatles)

I can`t choose Smells Like Teen Spirit.
For me the 90s were about taking the best from the past and making it sound modern.BanRAB using beats & samples , adding technology to it and making it relevent to modern day.Music expanded & people mixed & matched genres more in the 90s than ever before and to me Smells Like Teen Spirit is the total antithisis for that. I don`t think Smells Like Teen Spirit is representative of the 90s at all.
