Got some work done today, and after i returned home, I noticed that on the driver side, about the middle of the vehicle, something was loose and just hanging around. It seems to be a connection from the rear part of the body to the front. the front part has a piece attached, which gives a little when i try to pull it.

both pieces are flat metal, one of them seems like it may belong pushed into the other one. the back piece seems to be connected just to the body or frame of the vehicle, while the front one seems to go further to the front and seems to be attached to the actual mechanical parts of the front driver side.
Any clues as to what this may be? If so, is the vehicle safe to drive until i can get it back into the shop on monday?
had some work done to the breaks, calipers, rear springs etc.
any help greatly appreciated

That is your rear brake equalizer. It should connect to the rear axle and to the body slightly behind the drivers seat. They tend to brake occasionally.

As that gizmo senses a "twisting" action of the rear axle, it will equalize the pressure on the rear brakes. It is kind of like a mechanical ABS system. It helps avoid rear skidding due to locked up brakes.

The van will work fine without it. I have seen many which have been disabled purposely, or not repaired.
