It just means that the message didn't go through for some reason. It could be that the person receiving it had a full mail box and could not receive it. The message might have actually gone through and this is just some fluke message.

Best to ask if the person received the message yet or just resend it from your sent box.
 
I recieved this message earlier from this number:
9230.
and it reads: The message sent to recipient number (my friends number) on 2009-12-03 at 07.13 p.m. has expired and was not delivered. Please try again. Msg 2124

What does this mean exactly?
