Some good news about my N95

Most of the threads here seem to be about depressing experiences with the N95 (whether it be because you're getting frustrated from having not recieved it yet, to being horrified with the battery life!).

On Wednesday I popped into Phones4U and took out a T-Mobile contract with the N95. This particular N95 had an annoying problem... the top half of the slide was quite loose in the bottom right hand corner, meaning pressing the end call key, or any of the other buttons nearby, resulted in the top half of the slide bouncing up and down making a tapping/clicking noise. A bit irritating to say the least. It was only on the Wednesday evening that I discovered that Phones4U had actually put me on the wrong T-Mobile tariff.

I popped back in on Thursday expecting it to be a fairly easy process to switch to the correct tariff. However, I learnt that Phones4U needed me to return the entire phones, box and accessories along with the T-Mobile sim card. I was reasonably pleased about this because I was not very happy with the loose slide. And to my even greater delight, the new N95 has much less serious a wobble (although a wobble is still there, don't get me wrong). However, this wobble isn't very noticable, and certainly doesn't make a clicking/tapping noise as you're using the keypad.

Most people would be annoyed at the extra hassle and time (over an hour and a half) of changing their tariff. All I can say is that I'm really glad Phones4U cocked up the first time around!

So far I'm enjoying my new phone. I was truely amazed as I watched it track my progress home in the car (I'm new to this GPS melarkey), but battery life is (so far), horrendous. It has lasted just over 5 hours this evening. However, I am perfectly aware that I have been playing with it a lot, and that the battery hasn't been primed yet, so I fully expect this to improve considerably. The N95 is also blazing fast in comparison to my N73 - definitely a very noticable improvement in that respect.

All in all, a happy camper so far

i got the same flimsy feeling with the slide when i bought 1 and went to exchange it because of the flimsy slide, only to find that the second one i got has the same type of tapping or clicking or racheting on the right bottom of the front when it is in the open position and the keypad is exposed. other than this annoying little thing that i paid almost $900 for with a clicking almost flimsy slide the phone is great. and the one i have is made in finland with the plum back. so now i am convinced that all the n95s out there have the same issue with the slide. and also i hear a hissing and crackling in the handset does anyone else get the same?

I'll second that... surely the intent of the aforementioned N95 thread is for people to avoid posting DUPLICATE threads. It doesn't mean you must post every comment, thought, question, etc. in a single [massive] N95 thread. In fact, when most people go to search the forum I would imagine they first search for key words in the title (ie. looking for a thread which is mainly about the topic in which they're interested) and only if that fails does it make sense to search entire threads.

I personally lose interest in threads that are 200 pages long because they fill up with [often entertaining but off topic] chatter from the 'regulars'.

Back on topic... My N95 is also T-Mobile UK but purchased through CPW and there is no 'wobble' that I can detect. I'm also thrilled with the phone so far, though my experience with the GPS has been patchy (couldn't get it to pick up a satellite at all for the first few days). Battery life not great so far, but then I came from the N80 so I knew what to expect... and as you say it's probably not performing at it's best yet.

Sadly no, which means I've been unable to download any maps as yet whilst toying with the GPS. I did, however, find a 2gb for a decent price on eBay and I'm hoping it will arrive today. Mine did include the remote, headphones, and TV cable (but I assume these came with all N95's!)

Unfortunately I had a different format 2gb card in the N80. I must admit I wish Nokia would quit shifting formats with each phone they release! I know the cards aren't that expensive but I'm sick of buying them and basically throwing them away (as they just sit gathering dust) when I get a new phone!!

I actually like the micro sd better than the mini sd!!! Don't worry about them changing external memory card formats anymore. I don't think you can get much smaller then a Micro. And if they do make a smaller one, goodluck on finding it if you drop it on the floor
