some first fish tank advice?

It's a heated 10 gallon freshwater tank, i've conditioned the water and had it tested, (test results ok) and bought 2 tiger barbs as a start. My brother and sister each want to add a fish to the tank to call their own, what would go well with the tiger barbs? they are each about 1 inch. How long should I wait before taking them to the fish store to add their own fish? Thanks for any input :-)

African Dwarf Frogs are really cool aquatic frogs. They don't need any land, and you just treat them like fish! You can pick them up (They do jump, so be careful) and they breathe air! You can keep about ten fish in the tank, about one per gallon, depending on the size of course. Those weird looking see-through fish might work too. Also, tiger barbs might not like a tank that small. Good luck!

tiger barbs are a schooling fish and do better with at leasts 5 or six of them you can add other fish as soon as your ready they get along with angel fish barbs cory catfish danios minnows gouramis loaches mollies platies plecos rainbow fish rasboras sharks swordtails tetras

what ever you do don't make the same mistake i did, which put goldfish in there their Ammonia output is INSANE and they'll make your water cloudy, poisonous and deadly.

Also it doesn't sound like you cycled the tank so return the barbs and keep the tank empty with water in it and gravel and whatever other decorations and keep the filter running so the bacteria would grow, takes about 4 weeks, buy then you should have decided what fish to get, how many and whether they're compatible with each other and have enough space.

good luck.

First of all, Tiger-barbs will be an OKAY fish to cycle your tank (minimum 1 month), but once it's done cycling (which won't happen unless you have fish or something else producing Ammonia in the tank) i'd return them as they do best in no less than 4 in a 20 gal. Barbs are a little bit of a "nippy" fish and will chase slower/smaller fish around and nip at their fins. They do best with other barbs. So, when your tank is DONE CYCLING return the barbs, unless you want a barb only tank. If not, get a different fish.
Although I have had luck with faster fish such as tetras. I have a Electric Blue Lobster with my Tigers, they're fast enough to get away.
But if you want more fish, stick to small ones, like guppys. Or tetras.

research your fish before buying them...

that way you don;t make the tiger barb mistake again..

a little research and you would have not gotten them.

tiger barbs can really only be kept with other tiger barbs....

there are a few different types, you can mix them up...

for a ten gallon, no more than 6-7 total and no other fish..

there ok fish.....

good luck

Tiger barbs were not the best choice for a ten gallon. Their minimum is actually twenty gallons, and they should be kept in a school of at least six. They are nippy fish and being kept in less than a school, in close proximity with other fish, instigates this behavior. It would probably be a good idea to return the tiger barbs.
